Sustainable Development Consultant

resources and conflict may seem almost as obvious as the
connection we see today between human rights,
democracy and peace." Wangari Maathai

Overview

After 25 years of experience working in sustainable development in rural communities across Africa, I bring wisdom to nonprofits wishing to ‘do good well’. I co-founded the non-profit Eden Thriving in the USA and in Kenya. Over the last 14 years I have guided the growth and expansion of Eden’s programs and team from infancy to a thriving team reaching thousands every year. I am passionate about approaching poverty holistically and including climate change mitigation strategies in all programs, no matter what sector you focus on.

Why choose me?

I have been the recipient of many undeserved gifts in life, not the least of which was the opportunity to grow up cross-culturally. This has opened my heart to the vast wisdom available to all of us if we will just listen to each other more deeply. I have worked with people from all over world, all with a common passion to reduce poverty and cultivate opportunities to thrive more equitably. A few of the special gifts I bring I to into this mix are an ability to clarify vision and mission, articulate and integrate core values across programs, synthesise methodologies to align with core values and vision as well as offer insight into areas where vision, values and methodologies are not aligned.

A personal passion of mine is training nonprofits in the concept of ‘doing good, well’. Deciding to ‘Do Good’ without proper attention to cultural and spiritual heritage, privilege and power dynamics, and equitable and inclusive strategies of decision making, very often lead to perpetuating systemic oppression and poverty, rather than relieving it.
